This week we are changed....
Yesterday I was blown away. Something I have never seen in my lifetime. The coming together of people after a tragic event.
My sister, one of her friends and I decided to go on the Peace March to Remember Jill. We didn't know what to expect, maybe 1000 people roughly was what I expected. But when things go viral on social media, they really go viral... And this was all for good...
The sight of people streaming the length of Sydney Rd was one of those moments in life I will not forget. Like this past week, it will be etched in my memory forever.

One of the things that resonated with me at the march in my old homeland, was this Martin Luther King Jr Quote. It was hoisted high in the air, by a boy no older than my own, on his fathers shoulders. It was handwritten on purple cardboard with care and taped to a ruler. I read it, tears twinkling in my eyes.
There were many moving moments like this at the march, but the overwhelming sense of community and connectedness of the Melbourne spirit in a time of sadness, shock, grief and anger was what I took away from it.
Until next time

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this, Jane. The horrible incident, so tragic beyond words has moved the entire nation. I think Melbourne's a beautiful city full of wonderful people. The march would've been a true reflection of what your city's about.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing hon. Stuff like this terrifies me but the fact that so many people got together to remember Jill reminds me that there are good people in the world
